Diversity is one of the most delicous pleasures of our Open Mic, where you might hear music performed in any number of languages and styles. This month’s Feature Performer, Roy Tabua, offers a warm and silky-smooth blend of music inspired from the world music influences he loves…African, South American, American and European music. This Thursday night, you’ll hear him sing in a variety of languages, but I have to say that his bossa nova, softly sung in Brazillian Portugese is so smooth, it will melt in your mouth. Roy’s intriguing finger-style guitar accompanyment adds a latin warmth to his performance. He’s sure to soothe your soul.
Born in Nova Lisboa, Angola to Cape Verdian parents, Roy spent his youth in Portugal before moving to the US as a teenager. Roy began learning guitar at the age of 14 and continues to pursue a higher level of understanding of the guitar, song arranging and composition at the New England Conservatory of Music.
