Mia Boostroom CD RELEASE Party Nov 15, 2008

It's time to Party and you're invited!

Where: Rick's Music
Time: Doors open at 8 Tickets $5

This Saturday night Rick's Music will host the premiere launch of Mia Boostroom's debut CD, "Lately" We predict that this is only the beginning for this talented Dighton 16-year old!

You may have seen Mia when she first made her debut on our Open Mic stage less than 2 years ago. There, we have watched her grow from a shy music student into a skilled songwriter and performer who made it into the Las Vegas round on this year's America's Got Talent. Amazing!

Her voice is distinctive... pure and soulful. Her style draws you in. At times you can find yourself holding your breath waiting for the next perfect note...
~~~
Check out Mia at: http://www.myspace.com/miaboostroom
HOW DID SHE DO IT? We couldn't be more proud of Mia who, besides her vocal talent and songwriting ability, is accomplished on both piano & guitar. Mia's taken lessons for years. But, she'll be the first to tell you about the music connections she's made though Rick's Open Mic, Features, Special events and education programs. Like the time Mia got the chance to sing on our stage with American Idol semi-finalist, Nick Pedro. Meeting other musical teens, learning from them and the variety of performers that come our way, Mia has flourished in an atmosphere where the creative spirit abounds. Just ask her about it.
Mia's debut CD, "Lately" is made possible by the wonderful people at Rawkstars, Inc.® who have often partnered with us at Rick's Music to provide music educational opportunities to kids.
Rawkstars delivers programs that foster and celebrate music through discovery, education, creation and participation. Their concept is best described by their Executive Director, Jonathan Jacobs, "The portal is music, an especially compelling force for young people. It gives the rest of their education relevance. We don't exist to churn out virtuosos; music education requires kids to develop skills and attributes that will serve them throughout their lives. Music is the vehicle, not the destination!" We at Rick's applaud their efforts and...
We are honored to host Mia's CD Release Party this Saturday, which will showcase Mia along with some very talented Boston musicians, featured on her CD. The evening's proceeds will benefit Rawkstars programs. Learn more about Rawkstars at
JOHN FLYNN - Oct 9th Open Mic Feature
Open Mic Feature - Oct 9: JOHN FLYNN
Open Mic starts at 7PM - Admission $3 per person
DON'T MISS THIS SHOW!
The first time we met John Flynn of Delaware, we knew we'd met a man of substance. He travels the country lending his voice for many social causes in kinship with other singer/songwriter activists like his friends, Arlo Guthrie and Kris Kristofferson.
Besides getting plenty of airplay, his award-winning music has been featured in two movies. We can't say enough about his songwriting skills, his insight into the human condition and our society and his ability to TELL A STORY. Quite often with humor. Then, he backs up his music with action, raising money and awareness for causes like children with AIDS, Katrina Victims, the environment or volunteering his time to mentor men at the local prison. When does this guy sleep?
John Flynn is a National Treasure. His great vocals and musicianship are frosting on the cake.
You owe it to yourself to meet this man and his music.
We are his first stop on his Massachusetts tour. Check out John Flynn at http://johnflynn.net
THREE AWARD-WINNING SONGWRITERS-IN-THE-ROUND - OCT 3RD
RAYNHAM On Friday, October 3rd, Rick’s Music World will host an evening of creative entertainment featuring three award-winning New England songwriters, Terry Kitchen, Garry Foisy and Jennifer Minuto. Terry Kitchen is a Boston-based Songwriter with a multitude of awards and accomplishments to his credit. Terry performs nationally in festivals and popular folk venues across America from Alaska to Boston, including the famous Blue Bird Café in Nashville who says of Terry, “Terry Kitchen is definitely a cut above with his eye for detail and unique song ideas.”
Joining Terry will be Garry Foisy, often featured in the cafés and coffee shops around New England, especially the MA and RI area, where he calls Pawtucket home. His personal style exhibits a keen passion for vocals, harmony and meaningful lyrics. It is reflective and capturing of life situations.
The third performer, another Rhode Island native, Jennifer Minuto, has taken her music on the road as well, playing across New England, New York and beyond. Bob Gulla of the Providence Phoenix says of Jennifer, "When talking with Jennifer Minuto, you get an idea that music is not so much a vocation but a destiny, a place she knows at which she'll arrive no matter what the conditions or obstacles.”
There isn’t a successful performer out there that hasn’t had to overcome obstacles to pursue their chosen career. As Songwriters-in-the Round, Terry, Garry and Jennifer will share their experiences and inspirations with the audience members and each other as they weave a night of original music and the stories behind them.
Showtime is 8pm in the Café at Rick’s Music World, 421 New State Hwy (Rt 44), Raynham, MA. Tickets are $8. General Admission. For more info, call 508-977-0200 or go to
Celebrity Surprise at Open Mic
We never know who will show up at our Open Mic!
At last night's open mic we were surprised by the unbelieveable talent of Tony DeBlois who is both autistic and blind. He is a savant who is musically gifted and a Berklee College grad. Not just a grad, mind you, he finished magna cum laude!
There was a movie made about him.. "Journey of the Heart," (starring Sybil Shepard as his mother) and Tony is the subject of more than one book. Visit his website to read about him and see the long list of his accomplishments.
You'll be inspired. http://www.tonydeblois.com/
Congrats to Winner, Sarah Borrello!
She WON!!!
After 11 weeks of competition, 17 year old Sarah Borrello took Providence by storm and landed the top prize in the Tazza Songwriting Contest, with the band The Low Anthem earning second place. Competition was fierce with 190 contestents, who proved that there are some really great songwriters in our area.
Last Sunday night the three remaining acts were invited to each play a half hour of their best original music. Sarah was the only solo performer left in the competition. But when Sarah was onstage, she captured everyone's attention and showed her superb songwriting ability delivered with POW! The place exploded in applause, whoops and whistles when they announced Sarah as the winner. There was a strong Rick's Music World contingent there all yelling the loudest, I'm sure! We couldn't be more proud of Sarah, who began her music career on our Open Mic stage barely three years ago.
Sarah won $2,000 plus one of her songs will be in a Michael Carrente movie! Michael was so impressed with the top three acts, he promised all of them a place in one of his movies. This was a wonderful opportunity for all of the performers to gain exposure and make contacts. And many of the talented songwriters who made it into the second half of the competition have performed on our stage, including Mia Boostrom, Matt Borrello, John Botelho, US Sam, Vic Witherspoon, and Tom Beaulieu... Mia & Matt, like Sarah, starting their music careers there.
We congratulate all of you for the great variety of original music you've given us and for your fabulous performances at Tazza! Check out Sarah's new song, "Unhinged" at www. myspace.com/sarahborrello It's unbelieveable! GO SARAH!
